In a deep plane facelift, Dr. Bolourian accesses the underlying tissues and untethers layers of fat, skin, and muscle in order to lift and adjust them separately. Dr. Bolourian takes a composite approach to deep plane facelifting. A composite deep plane facelift involves very well-designed and hidden incisions within the natural creases, then lifts and vertically repositions the deeper tissues called the SMAS layer. 

By creating a composite flap, the entire mid-face and lower face is elevated, repositioned, and rejuvenated permanently without leaving big scars since the composite deep plane facelift is designed to avoid any tension on the skin. Despite the common belief that deep plane facelift is more invasive and requires longer recovery, this approach is safe in experienced surgeons' hands and may require less recovery than traditional skin flap facelifts.
